The Seventy Weeks
Dan
9:24
Seventy
weeks
are
decreed
as
to
your
people
and
as
to
your
holy
city,
to
finish
the
transgression
and
to
make
an
end
of
sins,
and
to
make
atonement
for
iniquity,
and
to
bring
in
everlasting
righteousness,
and
to
seal
up
the
vision
and
prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.
25
Know
therefore
and
understand,
that
from
the
going
out
of
the
command
to
restore
and
to
build
Jerusalem,
to
Messiah
the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks. The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in times of affliction.
26
And
after
sixty-two
weeks
Messiah
shall
be
cut
off,
but
not
for
Himself.
And
the
people
of
the
ruler
who
shall
come
shall
destroy
the
city
and
the
sanctuary.
And
the
end
of
it
shall
be
with
the
flood,
and
ruins
are
determined,
until
the
end
shall
be
war.
27
And
he
shall
confirm
a
covenant
with
many
for
one
week.
And
in
the
midst
of
the
week
he
shall
cause
the
sacrifice
and
the
offering
to
cease,
and
on
a
corner
of
the
altar
desolating
abominations,
even
until
the
end.
And
that
which
was
decreed
shall be poured on the desolator.
Verse 24a: “Seventy weeks are decreed":
In
ancient
Hebrew,
weeks
simply
refers
to
a
unit
of
seven.
The
Hebrew
word
here
is
often
used
to
mean
a
unit
of
seven
days,
but
it
may
also
be
used
for
a
unit
of
seven
years.
The
Jews
had
Sabbatic
years,
by
which
their
years
were
divided
into
weeks of years, each week containing seven years.
In this prophecy 70 weeks is 70 weeks of seven years, meaning 490 years.
There
is
a
gap
between
the
69th
and
70th
weeks
which
we
are
now
in,
and
is
referred
to
as
the
Church
Age.
We
know
this
because
not
all
the
conditions
of
Daniel
9:25
have
been
met:
to
finish
the
transgression
and
to
make
an
end
of
sins,
and
to
make
atonement
for
iniquity,
and
to
bring
in
everlasting
righteousness,
and
to
seal
up
the
vision
and
prophecy,
and
to
anoint
the Most Holy.
Verse
27
,
And
he
shall
confirm
a
covenant
with
many
for
one
week
,
meaning
for
seven
years,
And
in
the
midst
of
the
week
means after three and a half years.
This period of three and a half years is confirmed in Revelation where it is spoken of in three ways:
As 42 months in Rev 11:2 and 13:5
As 1,260 days in Rev 11:6 and 12:6
As three and a half years (Time, times and a half time) in Rev 12:14
